Green County comes into our service area through Brodhead, roughly 48 miles south-southwest of the Sun Prairie shop. Brodhead straddles the Green and Rock county line on the Sugar River, which makes it our southernmost regular stop. This is the near edge of Wisconsin's Driftless region — land the last glaciers missed — and the difference is immediately visible: rolling hills, deep-cut river valleys, limestone outcrops, and farmsteads with long views. It is beautiful country to build outdoor living space in, and the projects here reflect that.

The Sugar River and the state trail

The Sugar River State Trail runs 23 miles from Brodhead up to New Glarus along an old rail bed, and the river itself defines much of the town's character. Properties near the river and the trail tend to have generous lots and something worth looking at, so we build decks oriented toward the view with cable or aluminum railing instead of solid pickets. River-adjacent lots also bring floodplain considerations and soft alluvial soil in places; we confirm floodplain mapping before quoting and plan footings for the actual bearing conditions rather than a generic detail.

Driftless terrain and hillside decks

Away from the river bottom, the ground rises fast. Hillside and ridge lots around Brodhead, Albany, Juda and toward Monroe often need elevated decks on tall posts with engineered beams and bracing, plus switchback stairs with intermediate landings to get down to grade safely. Limestone and dolomite are close to the surface in parts of the Driftless, so an auger can hit rock well short of 48 inches.
